Christian L. Frock is a writer, curator, educator, and scholar with more than twenty years professional experience in the cultural sector. Her work and research focus on the intersection of the arts and humanities, politics, and public life. Her projects center the arts and humanities in social progress and systemic change. Frock’s work bridges museums, private enterprise, civic institutions, nonprofits, grassroots organizations, public space, placemaking/keeping, education, philanthropy, and legacy.

Her books include Rex Ray (2020), Eureka at Thirty Years (2017), Public Works: Artists Interventions 1970s – Now, (2015), and Unexpected Art (2015). Her writing has been published in multiple translations, including Chinese, Korean, and Italian, and has been featured in print, digital, radio, television, public broadcasting, news media, and global publishing. Her writing has been featured in several publications, including art ltd., Art Practical, The Guardian US, KQED, San Francisco Chronicle, and SFMOMA Open Space. She wrote critic’s picks for San Francisco Arts Monthly, special to San Francisco Bay Area editions of The New York Times, from 2009 to 2020.

She has taught at UC Berkeley, California College of the Arts, San Francisco Art Institute, and California Institute of Integral Studies. Frock moved to the Washington DC area in 2019 and has since also taught at New York University’s Washington DC Global Academic Center and The George Washington University. Her academic work includes roles as Scholar in Residence at California College of the Arts’ Center for Art + Public Life and as Visiting Scholar at San Francisco State University. She has organized large-scale exhibitions and public artworks for Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Mills College Art Museum, Headlands Center for the Arts, and San José State University, among other venues. Her books and exhibitions have been reviewed by artnet news, Artforum, FastCompany, The Guardian, and the San Francisco Chronicle, among others.

Frock has a Master’s Degree in Curatorial Practice from Goldsmiths College, University of London and a Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Art History from San José State University. Christian L. Frock offers consulting to people and businesses as Principal of Future Agency LLC. She is based in Greater Washington DC, where she is also developing creative projects based on her storied ancestry and their roles in forging the world’s oldest constitutional democracy.
